Bio

Yule Masiteng is a South African actor best known for his television roles as Chris Ngcobo in the SABC1 drama series Mzansi, and as sly, manipulative con man Jomo Zungu in the e.tv soapie Scandal!.

Born in the then Orange Free State, Yule began his working career as a model in the mid-70s. It was Ken Gampu’s role in one of South Africa's earliest films, Ngaka, that inspired him to become an actor.

It would take Yule 10 years to realise his dream – he starred alongside Henry Cele in the 1986 BBC TV production of Shaka Zulu.

The stigma of having been a model made it difficult for Masiteng to capitalise on his success with Shaka Zulu, and it was only five years later that he began getting some theatre work and the occasional cameo TV role.

This brief success also didn't last, however and after the second slump he decided to take a break and began taking any odd job available.

He volunteered at an HIV/Aids centre in Johannesburg and worked on various other projects with friends, including setting up a small printing business doing flyers and banners for small businesses.

Yule lives and thrives on the adrenaline of being live on stage doing shows such as The Spear fits the Wound, which was directed Rufus Swart and played at the Grahamstown Arts Festival, and getting through 7-10 scenes a day on the Scandal set.

Yule has appeared in numerous South African TV shows over the years and has had roles in international movies such as The Trail, Lord of War and Cape of Good Hope.

Foreign TV roles include the BBC mini-series The Long Firm and The Canterbury Tales (The Man of Law's Tale).

He guest starred in an episode of the SABC1 drama series Mtunzini.com when the drama returned for its third season in 2009.

In 2010 he played the role of Molete in the SABC1 drama series Intersexions. In 2014 he had a starring role in the SABC1 drama series Mfolozi Street.
