Daniel Sunjata is an American actor best known for his starring role as Franco Rivera, the ladies’ man of the 62 Truck crew, in the television drama series Rescue Me, from 2004-2011.
An Illinois native Daniel did undergraduate studies at Florida A&M University and the University of Southwestern Louisiana prior to attending New York University, where he was awarded his Masters in Fine Arts.
A co-star in the Woody Allen film Melinda and Melinda, Sunjata’s other film credits include Bad Company with Anthony Hopkins and Chris Rock, and Chazz Palminteri’s Noel, starring Penelope Cruz and Susan Sarandon.
At the end of 2004, he portrayed Langston Hughes in the Rodney Evans film Brother to Brother and in 2006, he appeared in director David Frankel’s feature film The Devil Wears Prada starring Meryl Streep.
Sunjata’s television credits include recurring roles on Law & Order: SVU and 2006’s Love Monkey, and guest appearances on Sex and the City and Ed.
Along with his regular series roles on Rescue Me, D.C., and the daytime drama All My Children, he appeared in the telefilm Twelfth Night, or What You Will and in the mini-series The Feast of All Saints.
In 2007 he starred as Yankees outfielder Reggie Jackson in the ESPN mini-series The Bronx Is Burning, based on the real life events of 1977.
A Tony Award nominee for his role in Richard Greenberg’s Take Me Out, Sunjata appeared on stage in Henry VIII at the New York Shakespeare Festival and at the Guthrie Theater in Twelfth Night.
