Bio

Robert Mpisi is a South African actor, musician and voice artist best known for his role as Sam in the eleventh season of the SABC1 AIDS drama television series Soul City, in 2011.

Born in Klerksdorp, Robert's first stage appearance was in the play Madeline En Sy Kinders when he was just seventeen. He found himself in the acting business almost by accident, when his English teacher realised his during class speeches and persuaded him to take part in a school play.

He soon discovered that he enjoyed acting and when he finished Matric he left Klerksdorp to gain experience in Johannesburg.

Friends in the industry taught him a thing or two, including Candice Hillebrand and Dorothy Ann Gould who showed him the ropes, and he soon found himself in adverts, films and TV dramas.

He studied acting at ASDA and the Actors Centre in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, and acted in TV dramas such as Tsha Tsha, City Ses'la, Home Affairs, Good Friday Special, Take Charge and
Buckets, a Swedish film about a boy who comes to South Africa to find his roots.

Robert has acted in popular adverts for Nashua Mobile and Boys Town as well as being a voice artist for a number of radio and TV ads, and also for the soapies Generations and Rhythm City.

On stage, Robert had the lead in Cellphone, a comedy production that was shown at the Grahamstown Festival. He also played a drug dealer in a play written by Dr. Allan Kolski called The Pump Room.

Robert speaks six languages fluently: English, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Sotho, Tswana and Zulu.
