Bio

Drikus Volschenk is a South African actor best known for his soapie roles as Anton in SABC3's Isidingo and as Stanley in M-Net's Egoli: Place of Gold.

Born in Durban, Kwazulu-Natal and baptized out of a 1000 Pipers whisky glass (after the minister forgot the baptismal water container at home), Drikus spent the first years of his life in Natal.

His parents decided to move to South West Africa, where he grew up in the deserts of Namibia in a German Kindergarten and later an Afrikaans Primary School.

Ten years later the family moved back to South Africa (North West Province – Potchefstroom), where Volschenk attended primary and high school, matriculating in 1997 with Honours of Distinction in Academics, Leadership, Arts and Culture, Music and Sport.

Coming from an academic family he had to enrol at the University of Potchefstroom where he did a degree in Business Communication, specialising in Art History, Graphic Design, Creative Writing and Tourism.

He also did an Honors Degree specialising in Audiovisual-, Mass-, Business- and New Media Communication, obtaining 13 distinctions and awarded Best Student in Communication Studies.

After university the opportunity arose for him to leave for London, where he worked as a security guard and later a primary school teacher in the countryside, to save money to study Music and Drama.

While teaching Drikus studied Musical Theatre part time at the Guildford School of Acting with the money he made from teaching Gypsy children after hours and private tutoring for children with needs.

After more than two years in the UK he returned to Johannesburg and enrolled at the School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance (AFDA) as a music student. He graduated as a screen actor with a nomination for Best Male actor in a lead role, an award for Best Short Film and performing in professional productions for television and stage.

He began his professional career as a freelance actor in January 2006 and since then has appeared in numerous television productions including Isidingo, Amalia, Binnelanders, Die wat Stom is, Begeertes, City Ses'la, Villa Rosa, Generations, The Lab, Jozi-H, Hard Copy, Erfsondes, Egoli, 7de Laan, Riemvasmaak and Interrogation Room.

He has also acted in the feature films Skin and Ace of Hearts, both in 2008.

He made a guest appearance in the role of Investor in an episode of the SABC2 sitcom Askies entitled "An Inspector Calls" (Season 1, Episode 11), in 2009.
